Peggy Joyce (Porter) Travis

Peggy Joyce Porter Travis, age 77, of Sanford passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Harnett County on June 25, 1942 to the late James Titus Porter and Alice Thomas Porter.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Porter and James Ray “Pete” Porter and sister-in-law, Connie.  Peggy and her husband worked together in their family owned and operated business, Travis Flag Car Service.  She worked many years at Crossroads Ministries in the two-year-old children’s program.  She dedicated five years to leading Distinguished Company.  Peggy was loved by many and her contagious smile will be truly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ken Travis; son, Kenneth Knight and wife, Karen of Sanford; daughters, Pam Mahaffey and husband, Rufus of West End and Diane Travis of Sanford; step-son, Rick Travis and wife, Sandy of Michigan; brothers, Richard Porter and wife, Shelby of Sanford, Vernon Porter of Southport and Jerry Porter and wife, Naomi of Sneads Ferry; sister, Alice Faye Winterbottom and husband, Dr. Gilbert Suitor of Vermont; six granddaughters and one grandson; two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter and by her beloved pup, Skittles.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel with Pastor Mark Whitfield and Pastor Paul Backlund officiating.  Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.
