Nevie Thomas “Tom” McNeill, age 83, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at his home.
Mr. McNeill was born in Harnett County, on July 27, 1934, to the late Johnny David McNeill and Rosie Dinkins McNeill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchild, Brandon McNeill; and brothers Allen, Eugene, and Grayson McNeill. Tom worked for Whitin-Roberts Company and served our country in the US Army. Tom entered the Army on April 24, 1957 and served two years. He took basic training at Fort Jackson, SC then he was attached to Company B 21st Engineer Battalion in Vicenza, Italy. Their mission was to aid the Italians in atomic warfare and to blow Brinner Pass on the Austrian boarder to slow down an over-land invasion in the event of war.
Surviving relatives include his wife Charline Cox McNeill of the home; a son, Lee McNeill of Fuquay; a daughter, Dee McNeill Sloan (Tim) of Carthage; a brother, Melvin McNeill (Marcia) of Bakersville; a sister, Anna Ozell Sharp (Joe) of Lemon Springs; a nephew (who was partially raised by Tom and Charline) Floyd McNeill; eight grandchildren, Stacy, Paula, and Junior Donathan, Karen McNeill, Justin, Hannah, Trip Sloan and Chris Sloan; eleven great grandchildren Christian Jones, Breanna Jones, Daulten Donathan, Nevie Ann Donathan, Nollie Rose Donathan, Cameron Sloan, Keenan Sloan, Charlotte Sloan, Cameron McNeill, Reagan Sloan, and Ethan Sloan.
The family will receive friends Wed., May 2, 2018, from 2:00 PM to the funeral hour in the fellowship hall of Ephesus Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3:00 PM at Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. David Boroughs and Rev. David McNeill presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
