Beloved Matriarch, Myrtle Ketner Waddell, age 94, of Sanford, NC, entered everlasting life on Friday, May 17, 2019, at home.
Myrtle was born in Rowan County on April 17, 1925 to C. A. Ketner and Mary Lee Troutman Ketner. She was one of eight children. She graduated from Cannon High School and worked at Woolworth’s Department Store and Cannon Mills in Kannapolis. She married Walter Raleigh Waddell on May 5, 1946, a union which lasted until his death on May 31, 1983. Myrtle retired from Coty in Sanford where she worked for some twenty years. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter; her parents; two brothers Clyde (infant) and Roy Ketner; two sisters Ruth Caldwell and Cleo Glenn.
Survivors include her brother Lloyd Ketner (Betty) of Kannapolis, NC and Mildred Karriker (Grady) of Greenville, NC; two daughters Judith Cress (Randy) of Sanford and Marsha Waddell of Apex, NC; four grandchildren, Michael B Childress of Sanford, Rachel Burns (Darin) of Sanford, Heather Furr (Andy) of Boone, and Kevin Calcutt of Apex. Ten great-grandchildren, Jacob, Samuel, Trystan, and Evie Childress, Logan, Ethan, and Maddie Grace Burns, Bryce Furr, Parker and Mikayla Calcutt; Three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. Going home celebration will be held at Wayside Evangelical Church on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, 11AM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Church. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.
Myrtle was a founding member of Wayside Evangelical Church where she served as Elder. She loved her Church Family and was active in many other capacities until her declining health. The family wishes to thank all Myrtle’s extended family, friends and caregivers for their prayers and support in the final days of her life.
