Mozelle (Layne) Hickman Coggins

Mozelle Layne Hickman Coggins, age 87, of Sanford, NC, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at her son’s home, surrounded by her family.

She was born Lee County, NC on November 2, 1931 to the late James Oscar Layne and Vera Jane Banner Layne.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Penn Hickman and Carl Coggins; siblings Johnny Layne, Ada Finley and Frances Foushee.  Mozelle was a member of Grace Chapel Church for 40 plus years and was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.  She retired from Trion after almost 30 years of service.

She is survived by sons Frankie L. Hickman and wife Shawn of Cameron, Michael Penn Hickman and wife Alice of Sanford; daughter Karen Hickman Holder and husband Randy of Sanford; brothers Jimmy Layne and wife Takako of Fayetteville, Wade Layne and wife Carol of Newport News, VA, Jerry Layne of Sanford; sisters Ruth Conder of Sanford, Peggy McGee of Kernersville; grandchildren Travis Hickman, Skyler Holder, Seth Holder, Amanda Smith; great-grandchildren Alexis Smith, Ayden Smith, Jackson Holder, Maci Holder, Paisley Holder; great-grandchild Amara Mozelle Hickman; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 12. 2019 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grace Chapel Church and at other times at the home of Frankie and Shawn Hickman, 3090 Pilson Road, Cameron, NC.  The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:30 PM with Rev. Joel Murr officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
