Mary (Small) Kennedy

Mary Small Kennedy, age 94, of Sanford, NC, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Westfield Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where she had lived for the past four years.

She was born in Duplin County on January 2, 1925 to the late Millard Small and Hattie Taylor Small.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Kennedy; brother, Eugene Small; sisters, Ethel Norris, Augusta Brantley, Gertrude Ballard, Reba Jones, Evelyn Hufton and Elizabeth Chessire.  Mary retired from Heins Telephone Company.  For many years, she was an active member of the Telephone Pioneer Club and Good Neighbor Club.  She was also a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Mary is survived by her sons, Henry Kennedy, Jr. and wife, Karen of Sanford, Kenneth Kennedy and wife, Deborah of Sanford; daughters, Patricia Cook and husband, Jimmy of Sanford, Mary Dodson and husband, Mike of Hillsborough; one sister, Mildred Basden; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.  The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Glen Hallead and Rev. Kent Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
