Lydia Anne Freeze Spitler, age 76, of Sanford, NC, died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at home.
She was born in Fayetteville, NC on February 25, 1942 to the late Carl Columbus Freeze and Laura Franck Freeze. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Wayne Howard Spitler, second husband Franklin Edwin Spitler, Sr. and son Gary Franklin Spitler. Lydia graduated from Deep River High School, Women’s College of Greensboro, Elon and completed her graduate work at NC State University. She taught 33 years in the Lee County School system including Greenwood School, East Lee Middle School, and West Lee Middle School where she was a former Lee County Teacher of the Year. Lydia was a member of Northview Christian Church and attended church with her son at St. Luke United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her retirement by spending time at the beach and mountains and traveling with her family.
She is survived by her sons Franklin Edwin “Ed” Spitler, Jr and wife Callie of Sanford, Brian Lee Spitler of Greensboro; grandchildren Carter, Nathan, Austin, Brianna, Greg, Anne, Steve; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Northview Christian Church with Rev. Mike Johnson and Dr. Gene Cobb officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery. Following the burial, the family will receive friends in the Ladies Parlor of St. Luke United Methodist Church and at other times at the home of Ed and Callie Spitler in Sanford.
