Mr. John Stanley Owens, “Jess”, 77 (Born December 19, 1939 in Orange County, NC), passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Mr. Owens was a hardworking man all his life.  From the time he was a young boy he worked sun up to sun down in tobacco and cotton fields.  He worked for Louisiana Pacific and General Shale Brick.  Mr. Owens never knew a stranger.  He welcomed everyone into his home and always offered them food because he wanted not a soul to go hungry.  He loved any and everyone and never judged anyone.  He loved children with a passion, they kept a smile on his face.  Mr. Owens loved his flowers and trees.  Gardening was his passion.  Mr. Owens loved the outdoors.  All in all, Mr. Owens loved life.

Mr. Owens was survived by his wife, Louise Owens of 52 years; three daughters, Patricia Parrish, Donna Stone (John), and Kay Hughes (Scott) all of Sanford, NC; six grandchildren, Kimberly Strickland (Michael), Dwight Parrish, Jr., Angel Stone, Sara Hughes, Ashley Hughes and Briar Hughes all of Sanford, NC; three great-grandchildren, Junior Atrisco, Kaelyn Strickland, and Jasmine Strickland all of Sanford, NC; three sisters, Mary Hargis of Florida, Maggie Garner and Nancy Coley both of Sanford, NC, and three close family friends, Micah Diver of Glendon, NC, Daniel Lawson of West End, NC, and Junior Webster of Cullowhee, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his father and mother, two sisters, and two brothers.

The family of Mr. Owens wants to give a warm thank you to the Community Home and Hospice team of Audrey Thomas, Sandra Hickman and Chaplain Darrell Harris.

Visitation will be held at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford, NC on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  A graveside service will be held at Euphronia Presbyterian Church cemetery on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Chaplain Darrell Harris officiating. Afterwards, the family will receive family and friends at the home of Louise Owens at 2669 Mays Chapel Rd., Sanford, NC 27330.
