James Watson Obituary

James Purdie Watson, age 78, of New Hill, NC, died Friday, February 16, 2018, at his home with his loving wife by his side.

He was born in Chatham County, NC on July 29, 1939 to the late Calvin Alfred Watson and Sadie Wall Richardson Watson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Annie Baldwin Watson; siblings Sarah W. Mooneyham, C.A. Watson Jr., Thomas Watson and special uncle Richard E. Watson.  James graduated from Moncure High School and attended Campbell College.  James had long and successful careers at several companies including Ebasco Services, Collins-Aikman, Allied Chemical, G. E., CP&L and following his retirement he worked for Chatham County Public Works Department. 

James was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.  Some of his favorite past times included hunting for Civil War relics, bird and duck hunting, clay shooting and golfing.  He especially enjoyed his annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota with special friends.  He loved classic cars, anything from the 1950s and Waylon Jennings music.  His most favorite things were his family, beloved pets and friends. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue Gaines Watson; twin daughters Teressa Watson Harris and husband Duane of New Hill, Susanne Watson Kinlaw and husband Andy of Apex; grandchildren Brice Harris, Carson Harris, Chase Harris, Hannah Kinlaw and Drew Kinlaw; special aunt Evelyn F. Watson, many friends, hunting buddies and nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends Monday, February 19, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 20th at 2:00 PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Pastor Benny Oakes officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
