Florence Elizabeth Hughes

Florence Elizabeth Hughes, age 100, died Saturday (1/5/19) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sanford.

She was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on November 18, 1918 to the late Johnston Levi and Cornelia Maddox Hughes.  Following the death of her father, her mother moved with her three young children back to Sanford to be near her family.

Ms. Hughes worked as a department clerk for Mack’s Dime Store for 32 years and was a faithful member of Shallow Well Church. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Cameron Crowson; brother Robert Levi Hughes and a nephew, Larry Crowson.

She is survived by a niece, Linda C. Holder of Sanford; a great niece, Jan Wilson of Mooresville; and a great nephew, Stephen Holder of Johnson City, TN.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Monday January 7th at Shallow Well Church.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 pm prior to the service and at other times at the home of Linda C. Holder.
