Ernest James Thomas, Jr., 96, of Sanford, NC died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Thomas was born in Lee County, on March 26, 1921 to the late Ernest Jasper Thomas and Algay Burns Thomas.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fairy Thomas.  Prior to his retirement, he was a truck driver and mechanic.  He was a long-time member of Lemon Springs United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Barry H. Thomas, Sr and wife, Gloria of Sanford, two daughters, Joyce Cole and husband, William of Sanford and Gloria J. Thomas and husband, Joel; four siblings, Lois Key of South Carolina, Mary Upchurch and husband, Avron of Sanford, Peggy Gaines and husband, Doyle of Sanford and Waylon Blue Thomas and wife, Rachel of Cameron; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. Kent Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
