Edgar “Leroy” Oldham, husband, brother, father, and grandfather died peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2018 in Sanford, NC at the age of 90.
Leroy was born in Chatham County on November 21, 1927, to Richard and Lottie Oldham. He grew up on a farm in Chatham County with five siblings. After graduating from Goldston School, Leroy went to work in construction for his uncle Lacy Oldham for a brief period before enlisting in the Air Force. After his military service, he went to work for Life of Virginia and sold insurance for over forty years. He married the love of his life, Jean Louise Lucas of Sanford in 1957. They had one son, Greg.
He will be remembered for his love of baseball, his family, and church. Leroy and Jean were founding members of First Wesleyan Church of Sanford. He was the treasurer there for many years. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Leroy is survived by his son, Greg and wife, Ann of Sanford; his grandchildren Samantha Fiala and husband, Mike of Fayetteville; and Patrick of Sanford; his sister Edna Murray of Winston-Salem, and brother Gilbert of Siler City. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jean; his parents Lottie and Richard; and siblings Norman, Elbert, and Lataine Oldham.
Visitation is scheduled for 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 3 at Cool Springs Baptist Church. The funeral and burial are immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please donate to UNC Cancer Hospital.
