Vera Guthrie Melby, Age 85, of Sanford, NC, died Sunday, December 4, 2016 at her home.

She was born in Carteret County, NC on July 2, 1931 to the late Bernie Guthrie and Georgia Willis Guthrie.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Bjurn Melby, Sr. and grandson Robert Shawn Melby.

She is survived by her companion Howard Isenhour of Sanford;  sons Bobby Melby and wife Kay of Sanford, Terry Melby of Sanford, Donnie Melby and wife Renee of Newport, Kris Melby and wife Ronda of Broadway, Doug Melby and wife Tracy of Sanford; daughters Kim Heath of Greene County, Bert Holt and husband Jimmie of Sanford; brother Sharon Guthrie and wife Lettie of Salter Path; sisters Coretta Avery and husband Pete of Morehead City and Evelyn Frost and husband Artie of Salter Path; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Moore Union Christian Church with Rev. David Yarborough officiating.  Burial will follow in the Broadway cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, to assist the family with funeral expenses, 600 W. Main Street, Sanford, NC 27332.
