Tommie Junior Matthews, age 88, of Sanford, NC, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Westfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Lee County, NC on September 7, 1929 to the late Mermon Matthews and Ruby Stiers Matthews.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Belle Matthews.  Tommie worked 20 years for Womack Tractor and 17 years for Pentair Pools.  He also served our country in the United States Army.

He is survived by siblings William Howard Matthews of Sanford, Tretta McNeill of Sanford, Joyce Heasley of Sanford and Lois Burns of Cumnock.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Center United Methodist Church cemetery with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
