Mabel (Sloan) Baker

Mrs. Mabel Sloan Baker, age 94, died Saturday Sept 5, 2015.

Mrs. Baker was born August 30, 1921, to the late Fred Walter & Mattie Johnson Sloan. She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Garrett Sloan and Jesse Walter Sloan; a sister, Lula Sloan Pettus and by husbands, Prentice Stone and John Baker.

Mrs. Baker graduated from Deep River High School in 1939. She started her professional career with W.K. Koury Co. in Greensboro, N.C. When Joe Koury built the Sanford plant Mrs. Baker transferred to that facility. In 1977 she was promoted to plant manager and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1989 with 50 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Grace Chapel Christian Church, former member of the Democratic Board of Elections and the VFW Auxiliary.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her niece Mildred Sloan Holland, whom she has lived with since 2010, other nieces are Carol Pettus Poindexter, Betty Sloan Mckinney, Linda Sloan Womack and Pat Sloan Wilmoth and nephews Wilson Pettus, Robert Pettus, Ray Pettus and Fred Sloan.

The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Sunday Sept. 6, 2015, from 4 until 6 PM and at other times at the home of Mildred & Bobby Holland, 2344 Walter Bright Road, Sanford, N.C.

Graveside Service will be held at Buffalo Cemetery on Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at 11:00 AM.

Flowers will be appreciated or Memorials may be made to Mrs. Bakers great nephew, Stephen Poindexter, who serves the Lord as a foreign missionary with IBM Global, in care of his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jimmy Poindexter, 8008 Bluffridge Road, Raleigh N.C. 27616.
