Mr. Lloyd Franklin Cashion, Jr., 89, passed away on September 16, 2016 with family at his side.  Lloyd, also lovingly known by his family and friends as “L.F.” and “Junior”, was born on November 19, 1926 in Stanley County, North Carolina, the son of Lloyd Franklin Cashion, Sr. and Mamie Ethel Wicker.  He moved to Sanford, North Carolina with his family at an early age and always called Sanford his home.

Lloyd attended Sanford High School and joined the United States Army in 1946 as a Private First Class Marine Engineman where he performed the duties of a Seaman on Liberty ships. After Lloyd’s tour of duty he continued to travel the world as a Merchant Marine until returning to Sanford in 1959 to join his father and brother in the family moving business which later became known as Cashion Moving and Storage which he co-owned with his brother Roy before retiring from the business.

He is survived by his daughter, Nikki Cashion Thomas (Larry) of Mooresville, sons Reid Anthony “Tony” Cashion (Susan) of Cary and Gary Lindsay Cashion of Ocean Isle Beach, granddaughters Sarah Cashion Williams (Carlton) and Jamie Nicole Thomas and grandsons Christopher Gary Cashion, Kyle Lindsay Cashion, and Reid Anthony Cashion II and brother Roy Cashion (Ruth) and many nieces, nephews, sister and brother in-laws. The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to niece Patricia Abernathy Johnson who was her “Uncle Juneys” primary travel mate, gardener buddy and caregiver after the passing of his wife Virginia.  Also, the family thanks caregiver Teresa Deese for her love and compassion that she bestowed upon Lloyd during his final weeks.

He is predeceased by his wife of 49 years Virginia Thompson Cashion, parents, brothers William Cashion, Charles Cashion and Tommy Cashion, sisters Annie Mae Ferguson, Rosa Lee Abernathy and Peggy Moore.

Lloyd was the kind of man that loved his family and friends dearly and he found enjoyment in his many hobbies that included fishing, gardening, western movies, watching ACC sports and spending time with his family at the beach.

A celebration of his life is scheduled on Sunday, September 18 at 3:00 PM at Buffalo Presbyterian Church with nephew William Cashion officiating.  Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Buffalo Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
