Lilly Mae “Shorty” Hutchens Phillips, age 82, of Goldston, NC, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 20, 2016.

She was born in Surry County, NC to the late Jona Ander Hutchens and Mary Lydia Stanley Hutchens.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Taft Thomas Phillips and three sisters Mary Ruth Kelly, Kate Jourdan and Kathleen Burke. She graduated from Goldston High School and along with her husband; Shorty was the former owner and operator of Goldston Grocery.

She is survived by son Eddie Phillips of Goldston; daughter Rene Duggins and husband Danny of Sanford; grandsons Brad Duggins of Sanford, Phillip Duggins and wife Whitney of Goldston; great-grandson Bronxton Alexzander Duggins; special sister-in-law Joyce Stone of Sanford and brother-in-law Jimmy Phillips of Bonlee.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at other times at the home of Rene & Danny Duggins, 2916 Greenbriar Drive, Sanford. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Edward Hill Friends Meeting cemetery with Pastor Matt Martin officiating.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. O’Donnell, Dr. Tirona and the staff, nurses and CNA’s at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion.
