Mr. John Edward Layne, age 73, of Sanford, NC, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at UNC Hospitals.

He was born in Lee County, NC on October 23, 1941 to the late James Oscar Layne and Vera Banner Layne.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son John David Layne and sister Ada Layne Finley.  Mr. Layne was a retired mining supervisor with General Shale.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Johnson Layne; daughter April Layne-Dopler and husband Chuck of Raleigh; brothers James Oscar Layne and wife Takako of Fayetteville, Billy Wade Layne and wife Carol of New Port News, VA, Jerry C. Layne of Sanford; sisters Frances Foushee, Ruth Conder and Mozelle Coggins all of Sanford and Peggy McGee of Kernersville; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  A graveside service will be held Friday, September 11th at 2:00 PM at Buffalo Cemetery.
