Mrs. Janice Marie Williams Cooke, age 69, of Sanford, N.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Cooke was born on Feb. 19, 1948, in Lumberton, N.C. to the late Edward Williams and Eva Mae Allen Williams.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward Lee Cooke and by a daughter, Kathy Cooke Place.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Lee Cooke; a daughter, Sandy Place and husband Bob of Sanford; brothers, Robert Williams of Cameron, N.C. and Eddie Williams of Sanford; a sister, Evelyn Logan of Sanford and six grandchildren, Matthew Place, Phillip Place, Adam Place, Zachary Place, Jamie Cooke, and Tyler Cooke.
Mrs. Cooke was a member of the Lemon Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. and served with the Lee County Rescue Squad. She was honored as Volunteer of the year for the Lee County School System presented by Gov. Jim Hunt and was an avid volunteer at Greenwood School.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Temple. The Funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Temple with Pastor Jason Dowdell and Pastor Mike Oldham officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Sandy and Bob Place, 5808 Minter Avenue, Sanford, N.C.
