James Melvin Hart, age 73, of Sanford, NC, died Monday, June 26, 2017 at his home. 

He was born in Lee County on February 28, 1944 to the late Roman and Lillian Hart, Sr.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Doris Smith, Hazel Shaw and Mary Lacy Cole; three brothers Jerry, Roy and Charlie Hart.  Melvin retired from Cherokee Brick and became the caregiver of his beautiful bride.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice Parrish Hart; three sons, Steve and Christine Hart, Joey Hart, Kenneth and Cynthia Hart all of Sanford, NC; one daughter, Kristie and Jamie Watkins of West Virginia; one sister, Mildred Branch of Sanford, NC; nine grandchildren, Austin Hart, Joseph Hart, Allison Hart, Kohlby Hart, Carol Ann Hart, Emma Watkins, Allysah Wood, Angie Hart and Gracie Watkins.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.  Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
