Iris Mae Hayes McGee was born on August 29, 1933, in Columbus County, NC to the late Gladys and Herman Hayes.  She was the third of five children.  Her surviving baby sister is Bea Redwine of Wilmington and a brother, Herman Hayes of Old Dock, NC.

She was surrounded by her family when she peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2016 at 10:30AM.

Iris grew up on a farm in Old Dock, NC and was taught early in life how to take care of loved ones.  If anyone needed someone to help due to sickness or when a new baby arrived, Iris was sent to help. She continued throughout her life helping people.  She enjoyed cooking and gardening.  Iris and her husband, Dexton moved to Olivia, NC in 1963 where she lived for 53 years.  They were faithful to their church, San Lee Chapel in Sanford, NC.  In the early years at San Lee Chapel, she served as the secretary and treasurer.

She is survived her children, Lloyd and Floyd McGee (twins), Alice Smith, her husband Sammy and Tina Eckenrode and her husband Kenny.  Her grandchildren are, Mandy Smith, Casie Goode, and Jessie Eckenrode.  Her great grandchildren are Madison Miller, Maisy Miller, Samuel Goode and Smith Goode.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that loved the Lord.

Iris was preceded in death by her husband Willie Dexton McGee of Olivia, NC; her mother, Gladys and her father, Herman Hayes of Old Dock, NC; her brothers Bud Hayes of Old Dock, NC and James Hayes of Castle Hanes, NC.

The visitation will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016, 1PM at San Lee Chapel, 3215 Keller-Andrews Road in Sanford, NC.  Funeral service will be at 3PM following the visitation with Rev. John Sauls, Sr  presiding.  Burial will follow at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  Flowers are welcomed and donations to one’s favorite charity will be appreciated as well.
