Irene Octavia Snook Smithwick, age 64, of Sanford, NC, died Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Transitions Hospice Center in Raleigh, NC.

She was born in Lewistown, PA on July 31, 1953.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Grey Smithwick, Jr.  Irene is survived by her special companion Anthony Hooker; sons Joseph Shane Smithwick and wife Terri of Oak Island, Patrick Smithwick and wife Tammy of Sanford; daughter Crystal Smithwick Sutton and husband Danny Sutton, Jr. grandchildren Ashley, Shane, Cody, Whitney, Justin, Sadie, Jaxon, Mackenzie and Mallory.

Other people who Irene treated like her own children were Norman Ostrander, Kristina Black, Patty High and Wendy Sornson and her very close friend, Betty Jean Wesley.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery near Spring Lake, NC with Pastor George Akers officiating.
