Welcome to the memorial page for

Ethel (Henderson) Foushee

May 23, 1919 ~ September 12, 2016 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Ethel Henderson Foushee, age 97, of Moncure, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, September 12, 2016 at her home.

She was born in Onslow County, NC on May 23, 1919 to the late Claude Adolphus Henderson and Ola Humphrey Henderson. She is preceded in death by her brothers

Elmer Henderson, Lewis Henderson, and Bill Henderson, and her sisters Emma Banks, Mary Meadows, Mae Banks, and Janie Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years the Rev. Garland Lewis Foushee. She is survived by her son Kenneth Lewis Foushee and wife Nancy of Sanford; her daughter Karen and her daughter Beth Foushee Brafford and husband Jeff of Broadway. She has three grandchildren, Kensey Foushee Erkes and husband Jason of LaGrange, Karey Foushee of Cary and Will Brafford of Broadway; and one great-grandson Asher Lewis Erkes of LaGrange.

She loved her Lord Jesus with all her heart, and she dedicated her life to being his disciple. She supported her husband in ministry and dedicated her children to the Lord before they were born.  She took pride in the many homes she lived in as a pastor’s wife always spending her free time planting and caring for her flower gardens.  With her warm smile and kind ways she loved, nurtured, and taught her children and grandchildren and countless children at churches where she and her husband served in Maysville, Henderson, Zebulon, Sanford, Beulaville, and Fairmont.   She was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, WMU leader, a Junior Choir director, and sang in the church choir. Her special ministry was calling church members on their birthday and anniversary.

In 1991 Rev. and Mrs. Foushee retired and moved to the Foushee Home Place where she enjoyed working in the yard creating beautiful flower gardens.  Over the past few years her loving caregivers Eva Mae McLean, Leola Carter, and Alice McCrimmon allowed her to stay at her home and enjoy the beauty of her creations.

Even during her last days she stated she wanted her children to accept Christ as their Savior.  When reminded that her children had made that decision she replied, “I mean all the little children.”

The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Gum Springs Baptist Church, Moncure, NC, with Rev. Julian Motley officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the services.

Memorials may be made to Gum Springs Baptist Church, 227 Gum Springs Church Road, Moncure, NC 27559 or East Sanford Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 609, Sanford, NC 27331.
