Edna Pauline Wicker Hamel, age 86, of Sanford, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at her home.

Mrs. Hamel was born in Lee County, on Aug. 20, 1930, to the late Lee Wicker and Leila Morris Wicker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Lowella Jean Hamel; a great-great grandchild Kash Patterson; sisters, Christine Schultz, Hilda Matuskicwicz, Marjorie Clarke and Ruby Wicker Todd.  She was a housewife and retired from Eaton Corp.  Mrs. Hamel was a faithful member of St. Stephen The First Martyr Roman Catholic Church, a member of the St. Catherine Ladies Guild, and a ten year volunteer with Central Carolina Hospital.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Lowell Albert Hamel of the home; sons, Michael Hamel of Sanford, Richard Hamel of Sanford, Steven Hamel (Karen) of Sanford, Martin “Marty” Hamel (Rhonda) of Buies Creek; a daughter, Cathy Hamel Patterson (Albert) of Broadway; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 6 to 7:30PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  A memorial mass will be held at St. Stephen The First Martyr Roman Catholic Church on Wed., June 28, 2017, 1PM and burial will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the St. Stephen The First Martyr Roman Catholic Church Building Fund, 901 N Franklin Drive, Sanford, NC  27330.
