Dorothy “Dot” Coggins Fulford, age 86, of Sanford, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, January 13, 2017.

An avid reader, Mrs. Fulford was a lover of books and poetry who took a particular interest in history.  She loved gardening and would often spend the warm summer evenings snapping green beans on her screened porch with family and friends.  However, none of these hobbies brought her so much joy and pleasure as spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Fulford was a member of Grace Chapel Church and was deeply devoted to her faith in God.  She spent much of her time ministering to the shut-ins of her church.  She was faithful to the call of God’s children in the book of Deuteronomy to show kindness to the stranger and the Christian’s call in the book of Micah to love mercy and walk humbly with God.  Mrs. Fulford had a servant’s heart and often went out of her way to show love, warmth, and kindness to those who felt they had been left out in the cold.  She instilled these values in her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ira James and Pearl Knott Coggins; her husband Herman Fulford; her siblings Elma Baker, Margaret Johnson, Helen Holt, James “Bud” Coggins and Jerry Coggins.  Dot is survived by her daughters, Ann Dickens (Jack) and Teresa Stone (Woody); grandchildren Chad Dickens and fiancé Crystal Churchill, Aaron Stone, Matthew Stone and fiancé Katie Thomas, Beth King (Ryan), Anna May (Bryan), and Katy Morse (Gene); her 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; her sister Eloise King Locklear of Jacksonville; and her many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 16, 2017, from 1:30 to 2:45PM at Grace Chapel Church.  The funeral service will follow at 3PM with Rev. Joel Murr and Rev. Bob Yandle officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
