Clifton Bryant Ayers, age 74, of Sanford, N.C. died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Central Carolina Hospital.

Mr. Ayers was born on Feb. 14, 1942, in Lee County, to the late Henry Kiser Ayers and Florence McGehee Ayers.  He worked at the NC Dept. of Corrections prior to his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Douglas Ayers of the home; three sons, Darryll Ayers (Susan) of Hartsville, SC, Brian Ayers (Susan) of Sanford, and Sammy O’Quinn of Cameron; two daughters, Carol Oakley of Cameron and Deborah Matthews (Barry) of Sanford; two brothers, Carl Ayers (Peggy) of Sanford and Clayton Ayers (Edna) of Sanford; two sisters, Judy Vick and Linda Parker both of Sanford; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held Friday, April 22, 2016, 2PM at Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. David Boroughs and Rev. Wayne O’Quinn  officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
