Carol Matthews Riddle, age 72, of the Deep River Community, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Lee County on September 12, 1944, to the late Lowell Leonard Matthews and Lillie Mae Hilliard Matthews.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Lowell Matthews and a step-granddaughter, Kimberly Jean Riddle.  Mrs. Riddle worked at Lee Drug Store and Scotties years ago but was best known for being a wonderful and loving homemaker.  She was a member of Sanford Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Alexander Riddle; step-son, Wayne Riddle and wife Peggy Day Riddle of Sanford; sisters, Melba Bernice Trudeau and husband Jim of Concord, NC and Linda Geraldine Cox and husband Mack of Sanford; three step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 18, 2016, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Sanford Church of God.  The service will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor David Kimbrell officiating and former pastor Dwayne Dickerson assisting.  Burial will follow at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
