Mrs. Althea Williams Harris, age 84, of the Deep River Community, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Chatham County, NC on August 21, 1930 to the late William Marvin Williams and Georgia Stedman Williams. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Harris, Jr.; and siblings: Margaret Williams, Giles Williams, John A. Williams, Jesse Williams, Josie Williams and Hazel Williams Wright. Althea worked 35 years for Heins Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church and loved working in her yard and was an avid reader.

She is survived by son Marvin Harris and wife Diane of Robins, NC, daughter Lisa Harris Phillips and husband Brian of Deep River; sister Evie Williams Deere of Cary, NC; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the fellowship hall of Flat Springs Baptist Church and at other times at the family home in Deep River. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Dr. Gary McCollough officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
